Marshall Foundation Banquet ( Mark Malingen Chair)
The Marshall Rotary Foundation Banquet was held on Thursday, November 6th at the Marshall Golf Club. There were 27 Marshall Noon and Sunrise Rotarians that attended along with 22 guests. Rotarian Paul Johnson recruited the talents of foreign exchange student Johannes Abraham to entertain the group with his piano playing expertise. An update on the Uganda Adopt-A-Village project that is being sponsored jointly by the two Marshall Rotary Clubs was given by Ted Rowe. Paul Harris Fellow recipients were recognized by Shirley Hiller and Jim Tully. Unfortunately our program presenter was coming from Brookings, SD and was unable to make the trip due to the roads. Fortunately Shirley Hiller had received his PowerPoint presentation on the Solar Oven project that he’s involved with and was able to present the information for those attending. Numerous raffle prizes that were donated by various businesses throughout the Marshall community were given with the grand prize of a week at Scott and Shirley Hiller’s home in Naples, FL and an allotment for airfare won by Mark and Stephanie Malingen. We look forward to continuing to host this annual event and for it to grow and prosper in years to come. Special thanks to Dave Horstmann for his work in soliciting raffle prizes and to Glenn Olson and Tracy Veglahn for their efforts in recruiting Noon Club participation, especially in light of the sudden death of the Noon Club’s Foundation Chair, Bernie Archbold.
November 19th Board Meeting
the Marshall sunrise Rotary board met on November 19 and reviewed expense reports on the banquet for the Rotary foundation. The roller cell was quite successful financially, however final numbers are not quite yet known. David has volunteered to donate a prize for the district raffle from the Marshall bike shop and we are very thankful for this offer. Election of officers for our Rotary club will take place on December 11. A new club secretary is needed for next year as well as a President elect-elect and one or two board members at large. Eight goals and objectives assembly will be held on November 20. Our clubs 2009 contribution to the polio Bill Gates matching fund will be $1000. Ted will contact Mary and of era hospital to see if they will help with providing medical supplies to the food shelf. Medical supplies donation could be coordinated through Dr. DeBrule again. A suggestion to donate $250 to the national guard unit for a banquet for their families but before they ship out was accepted by the board and the club. We will also have Mike DeBrule contact the food shelf and see if they would like the mobile food market to appear at the Christmas tree walk, which may be a good way to collect food donations for the holiday season. Esther's kitchen volunteer efforts have gone well. There is an upcoming kids against hunger volunteer project, and possibly a second harvest volunteer project as well.
November 20 Club Assembly Meeting
We discussed our goals at this meeting. Our goals for 2010 were to
Club members reviewed these above goals and had the following suggestions and criticisms. It was suggested that we have 100% sustaining members for the Rotary foundation and that we consider sponsoring someone for the leadership Academy in town. Partnerships engaging the younger community and young professionals were emphasized along with possible different meeting times for club members. There was a general consensus that it is quite difficult to measure one million meals and we will have to consider some way to monitor and measure these food or hunger effort outcomes. The assembly meeting may be continued next Thursday after Thanksgiving.
NEW MEMBEHIP ATTENDANCE POLICY
Make up reporting procedures- A new sign-in form starting this month will be used to track attendance and make-ups. There will be a column for regular attendance and another column to document a committee meeting, bring a guest or event attended/worked. If a Rotarian made up at another clubs meeting the slip needs to be given to one of the membership committee members.
Approved Make-ups that would count toward 50% Attendance requirement
*Attend another club’s regular meeting(2 week window)
*Attend a Sunrise Club committee meeting(In which you are a member of) This includes: BOD, Membership, Program, Hunger-Local,
Hunger-International, Fundraising.
*Sign-up for & working at a club sponsored event(Pancake Breakfast, Rose Sale, Food Shelf etc.)
* NEW!! Invite a guest to a regular meeting (counts as one make up)
****All Rotarians will be responsible for keeping track of the ‘extra’ committee/events/guests by recording on the weekly meeting sign-in.
Going forward the membership committee will be emphasizing attendance at every regular meeting with a committee member giving a report of how the club is doing. The club does a good job in getting interesting program weekly. The 50% attendance requirement shouldn’t be that hard to obtain on a monthly basis. The committee will encourage (personally call or meet) those members that have not been attending (Pay & do not show up at all)and those that are on the border(50% or below). In the Spring (May/June) if there hasn’t been any effort to attend by those members, the membership committee will recommend to the board to take appropriate action. Members terminated for poor attendance may be reinstated after two months of greater than 50% attendance.
